Last week, UBC Law celebrated the one-year anniversary of its new building, Allard Hall – time flies!
The celebrations included an announcement that the faculty has received a $2 million donation, the second largest individual donation the law school has ever received. The donation was made in honour of the late Franklin Lew, who graduated from UBC Law in 1961, by his wife Joan and son Derek Lew.
In UBC’s announcement, Derek Lew said:
“My father always remembered the life-long lessons and friendships he gained here. … His education and experiences at UBC Law afforded him with many outstanding opportunities that shaped his career. It’s a great privilege for us to honour him with this gift to the school, with the hopes that it will help future generations of students embrace new opportunities and achieve success.”
The gift will establish the Franklin Lew Innovation Fund, and the school’s Forum space has been re-named in honour of Mr. Lew.
