If you advise or are involved with running a society in BC, you are probably aware that major changes are coming to the legislation governing societies later this fall, with the new Societies Act coming into force on November 28th, 2016.
With so many rules changing, BC Registry Services has prepared a guide to assist societies in making the transition to being compliant with the new legislation.
The free PDF guide is called “Preparing for B.C.’s new Societies Act: A Guide to the Transition Process“. It covers the following topics:
- The transition process: what to expect including dates, costs and filing requirements
- The new “member-funded” designation: does it apply to your society, and what are the effects of this designation?
- Amending by-laws: what by-laws may be incompatible with the new Act, and when and how to make changes
- Potential traps for the unwary: new requirements that societies should prepare for, and when those requirements take effect
Registry Services continues to add resources to its website for the new Societies Act. There, you’ll find helpful tables of concordance between the old and new legislation, FAQs, information about the benefits of the new regime, model bylaws, and more.
