The province is making waves with the introduction of Bill 3-2015, the BC Building Code.
The code hopes to achieve the following:
1. Streamline building requirements (Across the province, excluding Vancouver and mines).
2. Standardize mandatory building qualifications.
3. Provide further review for experimental building plans.
The purpose of the legislation proposal is not to replace the 2012 Code, but to boost efficiency of its use. According to the Journal of Commerce, current “building requirements remain a patchwork across jurisdictions, with various authorities implementing requirements in addition to the B.C. Building Code 2012.”
Time will tell whether this Bill will pass, but expect a two to four year transition period.
