Harj Sagra of Sangra Moller LLP and UBC Law alumnus ’84 has donated $150,000 to the UBC Faculty of Law to establish the Sangra Memorial Entrance Award, in memory of his mother, Gurbax Sangra.  The first Sangra Memorial Entrance Award of $15,000 will be offered to a student entering the JD program in the fall.

Mr. Sangra chose to establish this award to “honour my mother’s passion for and belief in higher education and the opportunities it creates for those who pursue it.”  He went on to explain that his “experience at UBC Law and my law degree have had a great impact on my life, and I hope that this award will help a bright and accomplished student succeed at an education that my mother never had the opportunity to pursue.”

Robin Elliot, QC, Chair of the Scholarship & Awards Committee at UBC Law stated that the Faculty is very grateful to Mr. Sangra for establishing the award, adding that “An award at this level will help the Faculty continue recruiting the best and brightest students in the country.”
