Legal Feeds reports that the Rural Education and Access to Lawyers (REAL) program, under the auspices of the CBA BC Branch, has received $150,000 from the Law Society of BC.
According to Legal Feeds:
“This summer, the REAL program placed 20 summer students in smaller communities. It provides them with advice and information as well as financial assistance with interview-related travel costs. For law firms and lawyers, the program provides funding for hiring summer students and promotional support for marketing the various regions to law students and new lawyers.”
The funds will allow the REAL program to complete its five-year pilot project, which aims to increase the number of lawyers in rural areas. The program, which got its start thanks to funding from the Law Foundation of BC, has had good results in its first three years.
