The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced on November 8, 2013 that the Honourable Richard B.T. Goepel, a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, has been appointed a judge of the BC Court of Appeal to replace Mr. Justice C.E. Hinkson, who was recently appointed Chief Justice of the BC Supreme Court.
Mr. Justice Goepel obtained his Bachelor of Laws from UBC in 1973 and was called to the Bar in 1974. He practiced with Watson Goepel Maledy and predecessor firms in Vancouver, focusing on commercial litigation and insurance law. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1999.
Mr. Justice Goepel was appointed to the BC Supreme Court in 2001. His appointment to the Court of Appeal is effective as of November 8, 2013.
