Access Pro Bono (APB) is seeking Vancouver, New Westminster, Kelowna and Victoria lawyers to volunteer for its 5th annual free legal advice-a-thon in September, taking place September 7 in Vancouver, September 11 in New Westminster, September 14 in Kelowna and September 18 in Victoria.
In each outdoor advice-a-thon location, volunteer lawyers will provide free legal advice within their particular areas of expertise to one or two pre-booked or drop-in clients. Clients will be low- and modest-income individuals who may otherwise have limited access to traditional free legal advice clinics.
Volunteer lawyers will be fully insured and able to choose their preferred volunteer shift(s). APB will match clients’ legal issues to lawyers’ areas of legal expertise, and will conduct thorough conflict checks for all clients. Friends, family, co-workers and members of the public will pledge financial support for the volunteer lawyers. APB will also publicize and award prizes to the top fundraising lawyers and law firms.
APB urges anyone interested to register today and participate in this unique event designed to serve the public, spread awareness around lawyers’ efforts to increase access to justice, and raise $60,000 or more for BC’s pro bono programs.
