Former Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis is taking his six years of sports management to the classroom: UVic’s classroom to be specific!
Gillis was officially let go in April 2014 after the team failed to make the playoffs. Gillis, both the General Manager and President of the province’s team, was scrutinized for a number of reasons concerning player trades and personal issues between affiliated Canucks members.
Before becoming the western hockey team’s manager, Gillis, originally from Ontario, received his law degree from Queen’s University. Gillis first approached the Kingston institution to coach its hockey team, the Golden Gaels, but soon became a student himself.
The highly anticipated course will be offered in the spring of 2016 and hopes to educate students on the “legal and business relationships between leagues, teams, players, agents and union.”
