March 8, 2013

Via JP Boyd’s BC Family Law Resource Blog, the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies (CFLS) at the UBC Faculty of Law has just released The BC Family Law Act: A Plain Language Guide for Women Who Have Experienced Abuse.

From the CFLS news and events page:

“The CFLS is excited to launch the plain language guide to the new BC Family Law Act, written by Laura Johnston (JD 2013) This guide, developed in consultation with women’s anti-violence organizations, provides women navigating the family law system with an accessible tool to understand this new legislation, which makes substantial changes to the laws relating to matrimonial property and child custody.”

The guide covers such topics as court orders for protection, matters related to children, out of court dispute resolution, where to find more information, and what to do if you can’t afford a lawyer.
