Legal Couple Makes Large Personal Gift to TRU Law

January 30, 2015

Via Inside TRU, CBABC past-president and current Bencher Sharon Matthews, QC and BCSC Master Rob McDiarmid have made a $50,000 donation to the law school at Thompson Rivers University, “one of the first major personal donations to the Faculty of Law”.

TRU President and Vice-Chancellor Alan Shaver noted that:

“Master McDiarmid and Ms. Matthews have been connected with this university for 20 years, in the capacities of counsel, donor, advocate and champion. We are honoured to pay tribute to their support by dedicating this space to them”.

McDiarmid and Matthews have strong connections to the school and the area. McDiarmid practiced law in Kamloops for more than 35 years, and was an early champion of a law school at TRU. Matthews “counts the honour of addressing the first class of TRU law students on the first day of classes as one of her proudest moments as CBABC president”.

Their donation will contribute to scholarships and bursaries, and a seminar room in Old Main will be named the “McDiarmid Seminar Room”.
