Law Week is a national event held annually in April to celebrate the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It provides “an excellent opportunity for the profession to educate the public about the vital role that lawyers and the judiciary serve in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.” This year, Law Week’s theme is Access to Justice: What does it mean to YOU?
Law Day in Canada is April 10, 2014. In British Columbia, events celebrating Law Week will take place throughout April but most will occur during the week of April 6 to 12.
Law Week events in BC include the following:
- Student Outreach Program: Judges in the Classroom (April 1)
- The Barry Sullivan Law Cup (April 8)
- Free Public Education Law Classes (April 10)
- Courthouse Tours (April 10)
- Dial-A-Lawyer Day (April 12)
Law Week events are made possible by lawyers across British Columbia who generously donate their time and energy to this worthwhile cause. In BC, Law Week is put on through the collaboration of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC, the Law Foundation of BC, the Law Society of BC and the Vancouver Bar Association.
