Law Society to Convene Special General Meeting on June 10

May 14, 2014

The Law Society has set the date for the Special General Meeting for June 10. Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. and the meeting will start at 12:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held in 13 locations, all linked by telephone: Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Castlegar, Cranbrook, Prince Rupert, Smithers and Terrace.

The reason the Special General Meeting is being convened is to consider a resolution directing the Benchers to declare, pursuant to Law Society Rule 2-27(4.1), that Trinity Western University is not an approved faculty of law. A resolution passed at a general meeting is only binding on the Benchers when it complies with section 13 of the Legal Profession Act.

The transcript of the April 11 Bencher meeting regarding TWU’s law school is available for lawyers wishing to take part in the upcoming special general meeting.
