The Law Society of BC has released its 2013 Report on Performance. The annual report measures the organization’s performance on various strategic goals, and shares details of their programs along with data about the province’s lawyers.
Here are a few interesting statistics from the report:
- In 2013 there were 536 new lawyers in BC: 254 men and 282 women.
- “The overall ratio of lawyers to population for the province is about one lawyer for every 450 residents; however, a rural community such as Merritt has one lawyer for every 2,450 residents”.
- “While there is a significant overlap in the work of barristers and solicitors, approximately 40 per cent of the legal work in BC continues to be solicitor’s work while 60 per cent involves barristers”.
- Most BC lawyers are in the 40-54 age range.
The report also showcases the organization’s internal workings and community involvement.
