JES and BCCA Launch Appeals Self-Help Website

October 26, 2012

The Justice Education Society of BC (JES) and the BC Court of Appeal have collaborated to develop a website to assist self-represented litigants with the conduct of appeals. The new website is found at

Along with general information on the court, the website contains:

  • Criminal guidebooks on how to appeal a conviction and appeal a sentence
  • Civil and family guidebooks – one for appellants, one for respondents
  • Definitions of legal terms
  • Resources for how to get legal information and legal advice

As noted by JES, in 2011, twenty-two percent of applications in the Court of Appeal were from self-representing litigants.
