Expanded Role For BC Paralegals This January

The Law Society’s December E-Brief notes that designated paralegals will be permitted “to make limited appearances in court to deal with certain procedural applications in family law” effective January 1, 2013. This pilot project aims to improve access to justice and affordable legal services by expanding the role of paralegals with the BC legal system. Under the supervision of lawyers, designated paralegals have also been allowed to some legal advice to clients since July 13, 2012.
