Cowper Impressed With Abbotsford Legal Community

June 13, 2012

According to the Abbotsford Times, BC’s Justice Reform Initiative chair Geoff Cowper, QC is impressed by the city’s legal community, members of which he met at a roundtable hosted by MLA John van Dongen this past May.

“Cowper was most impressed by three areas of success: co-operation between justice partners, applying criminal case flow rules, and strong collaboration with community members.”

Cowper said he’d give the city “a gold star for professional and excellent cooperation”, and praised the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association and the Abbotsford Police, which employs dedicated domestic violence and mental health officers.

Van Dongen “hopes to leverage Cowper’s high praise to support a pitch for a justice centre for Abbotsford” which would replace its current, overcrowded courthouse.
