Courthouse Libraries BC has just released its 2010 Annual Report, which describes how its services were used throughout the year.
Here are a few highlights:
- Staff handled 40,000 information requests – 38% from the public
- Staff provided in-person training on legal information tools for 150 clients, and library orientations and tours for 1,000+ clients
- CLBC launched an online legal research course, which 24 lawyers completed for CPD credit
Courthouse Libraries BC also operates Clicklaw, which consolidates plain language legal information and options for legal assistance. The Clicklaw website had 94,027 visits in 2010 (dramatically up from 2009).
In 2010, LawMatters, a partnership with BC public libraries, transitioned into a CLBC program. Throughout the year, 70 public library staff were trained in answering legal reference questions, and 58 public libraries (representing 216 branches) received LawMatters grants to add legal information resources to their collections.
