CLEBC recently announced its Paperless Course Materials Initiative (“PCMI”), a greener approach to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. Last year, CLEBC switched to printing on 100% post-consumer recycled paper and reduced printed course brochures, using more than one million fewer pieces of paper. Now, it is taking the next step. As of January 1, 2014, registrants of CLEBC’s programs will receive course materials in electronic form only but hard copies will be made available for $20 plus tax.
The benefits of the PCMI are as follows:
- the electronic versions of course materials provide more flexibility for storage of the materials;
- convenient access on a tablet or laptop during live courses and afterward. CLEBC provides complimentary wi-fi access at live courses;
- course materials are downloadable in PDF, fully searchable, and updated to incorporate additional papers even after the course.
The goals of the initiative are to reduce CLEBC’s carbon footprint, to reduce unnecessary paper wastes and expenses and to be innovative while serving the evolving needs of the legal industry.
