Celebrating BC Law Week 2016

April 7, 2016

Have you heard? Luke Skywalker, the Wizard of Oz, and the Three Little Pigs are on trial… along with some Girl Guides, too*. It can only mean one thing: Law Week in BC! For more than 30 years, Law Week has honoured the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. BC will celebrate this coming week, with Law Day falling on Thursday, April 14, 2016.
Law Week 2016 is full of engaging, helpful events and programs to raise public awareness “about the vital role that lawyers and the judiciary serve in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system.”
Here’s a look at just some of the events happening as part of 2016 Law Week:
One of the most popular events of the week is Dial-a-Lawyer Day, held on Saturday, April 16th this year. From 10am to 2pm, BC residents can call 1-800-663-1919 for a free 15-minute lawyer consult on a variety of topics.

In BC, Law Week is made possible through a partnership between the CBABC, the Law Foundation of BC, the Law Society of BC, CLEBC and the Vancouver Bar Association – and of course, hundreds of hours of volunteer service from legal professionals across the province.

Follow BC Law Week on Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news.

*There will be Star Wars-themed mock trials in Victoria, Fort St. John, and Kamloops; a Three Little Pigs mock trial in Nanaimo; a Wizard of Oz mock trial in Duncan; and the Girl Guides “Law and Order” mock trial in Kelowna.
