April 17, 2013

We are a couple weeks into the transition back to PST – how are you faring? If you’re in need of some extra guidance, here are a few resources to help.

  • The Law Society has put together an extensive list of frequently asked questions regarding law practice and PST, that addresses various issues such as exempt services, out-of-province clients, GST/HST/PST on fees/disbursements invoiced before April 1, PST tax returns, etc. See Practice Resource: PST Law Practice FAQ (6 pages).
  • The Province has issued a bulletin that provides information on how the provincial sales tax (PST) applies to purchases of legal services, effective April 1, 2013. See Bulletin PST 106 (5 pages).
  • The Association of Corporate Counsel BC Chapter will host a free session for in-house counsel tomorrow, April 18 at Thorsteinssons LLP: Change from HST to GST/PST – What Counsel Should Know.
  • The CBABC Branch has assembled an HST to PST resource page. There are also a few chances left to catch a repeat of the CBABC webinar, HST to PST for Lawyers. Deja-Vu, All Over Again? It will be presented this Friday, April 19 (9:30 to 11:30 a.m. orR 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.) and again next Friday, April 26, again from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
