The CBA British Columbia Branch recently announced the 2013 winners of the Women Lawyers Forum awards.
The winner of the 3rd WLF Award of Excellence is Jan Lindsay, QC.
“Jan’s quiet modesty contrasts sharply with her achievements as a skilled lawyer, Bencher, community volunteer, and mother of four children. Jan became the first woman partner in the firm Lindsay Kenny LLP in 1989, at a time when few women made it to partnership in Vancouver law firms, and even fewer women managed to have a large family and a successful full time litigation practice. As such Jan became a mentor and role model for a generation of women lawyers.”
The winner of the Debra Van Ginkel, QC Mentoring Award is Danine Griffin.
“Over the several years that Danine has served as a mentor for the BC WLF’s mentoring program, she has provided support and inspiration to women lawyers who are attempting to balance the stress of a legal career with their personal lives. Her nominators have noted her outstanding “personality, warmth and integrity,” observing that she is “an exemplar for female lawyers” through her “quality, professionalism, and ability to form strong personal connections with her colleagues. “ Her mentorship has been described as making a “huge impact” on her mentees.”
